StartupNation Home-Based 100

How StartupNation found its winners

The 2007 Home-Based 100 is a compilation of 10 Top Ten categories for privately held U.S. businesses that are based in homes. Each category has a unifying theme.

By Rich Sloan, StartupNation

All of the businesses in the Top Ten categories, with the exception of Best Financial Performers, were judged and ranked by the StartupNation editorial staff based on how well they reflected and represented the theme of the respective category in which they were competing. Popular voting helped contribute to the judging decisions, but it was just one of a variety of factors considered, including creativity, viability, novelty and quality of the description submitted by the entrepreneur.

The Top Ten Best Financial Performers were chosen based on objective financial data, including their 2005 and 2006 gross revenues and net incomes. The actual financial performance was published for the winner and runner-up only, while those details were not disclosed for any of the remaining Top Ten Best Financial Performers. This was in order to preserve the businesses' privacy, something uniquely important to home-based entrepreneurs.

StartupNation reserved the right to reject applicants for subjective reasons.
