Receive Your Social Security Benefits Outside The United States

Yes, you can receive your social security benefits outside the United States.  If fact, you can have them deposited into your foreign bank account.  So, fear of not receiving your social security benefit checks should not deter you from your expatriate living dreams and life abroad.

This concern about not receiving your social security check abroad can be alleviated it you are aware of certain stipulations.   This discussion is primarily for U.S. citizens living abroad, since there are specific regulations that relate to citizens of other countries which are eligible for social security benefits because of their work history in the U.S.  Three important questions for you to consider carefully before making the move follow:

1.    When are you outside the United States?

2.    How and where can I receive my Social Security benefit checks?

3.    Can I lose my benefits by living abroad

Biggest Threat to Economic Recovery

I hardly think I'm walking out on much of a limb there -- after all, the U.S. has not only an incredibly hardworking labor force, but an extremely ingenious one. It's home to some of the most advanced technology in the world, and historically the people have had an undying "can-do" attitude that's helped the country through major wars and major economic disasters.

Get Free Government Grant Money

"coz it's a piece of s#%#!!!...you jack!!!"
What is? My f250? It is not. Its my baby it will still be here when I die. The Focus? Seems ok to me. I havent had any issues with it at all. Its just a mule, its job is to get me to work. It does that just fine.
As for vehicles from non American companies. I have no comment on those. As a matter of fact I have never even test drove one. I likely never will.

Now if your off hand comment was about my opinion of over paying for a hybred. Its a free country you can over pay if you want. I just wont do it.

I don't understand your reasoning. Maybe when recession gets a little deeper you will pick up your family and move to Japan? I have had many us and japanese cars both have had similar issues.  Reliability/durability of any vehicle is directly proportional to how you maintain your car. Japanese cars are built around a single principle or two. 1 to get you from a point  a to a point b for the next 10 years and 2 to get good gas mileage. I just could not picture myself coming out of work and getting into a corolla or a civic for next 10 years. The reason why so many of us will still buy us cars is because we have passion for cars. I would rather walk up to a new 2010 camaro with a big smile on my face than walk up to a corolla and feel sorry for myself. And by the way, you live in this country........I am familiar with Japanese culture and I know that Japanese will never buy any other car except for their own.....forget US cars....they won't even buy german cars.....What is wrong with us in this country that we do not support ourselves?

If thousands and thousands of U.S. citizens work for Honda and its suppliers, and they all pay taxes here, shop here, pay bills here, raise families here, then you can't tell me all the profits go back to Japan!!

You talked about"Mazda". Hate to burst your bubble but Ford owns it. I also think that a small car[Festeva], that Ford makes, is made in Mexico. Yes, Ford has been around for a long time and if you like there product then stay with them. Did you know that back in the mid80's Ford sent there employees a letter saying something to the affect that forin  made vehicles does or does not hurt there jobs? This was right before a union contract. My uncle voted No IT DOES NOT and he and others was back to work. With in a month Ford was making that model that I mention with out any one worker from Ford complaining about it.

ON CHASE BANKDevil

Chase Bank may have corporate integrity but much like GE MONEY they have issues with fair credit card practices which based on the Fair Credit ACT published by a GREAT HONEST company USAA, they are both in violation of these new laws.  I say we live in the best free country in the world.  Get bit once, take what you have left and leave Chase for better opportunities.  USAA stands by its customers and only charges what they have to, to stay in business.  I am an American fighting in the war in Iraq so you could argue that I am out of touch with the issues but you would be so wrong.  I read the issues late into the wee hours of the night.  What Chase has done to propel itself, sounds like a violation of the FAIR Credit ACT that should have become law by now.  If you have a USAA account the 7 Articles of the ACT were published by the company and minor changes to the company were announced by the president of USAA.  I am not a spokes person for USAA not do I profit from promoting the great job they have done for me and my family but I am very aware of the shady practices of GE MONEY, We Care Credit.  Chase sounds like it was torn from the same cloth.  With GE MONEY WE CARE CREDIT; they have a 17 day cycle.  The idea of WE CARE CREDIT was to provide upfront money for medical bills while insurances like TRI-CARE and MEDICARE meander through paying claims; six weeks to six months at times depending if the medical facility files all the paperwork with all the 'correct' information; anyway I digress.  On a 17 day cycle, I paid a 1000 dollars on the balance and figured that would suffice for that months pay but went on line to check the account in between combat missions and had a 50 dollar fee.  Yeah no kidding, a fee after a 1000 dollar payment for not  making that month's payment although like the Chase patrons are complaining about, I was allowed to make the payment with NO warning that it was TOO EARLY so it did not count for that pay cycle.  Under the new laws according to USAA; that practice is now illegal.  I wonder how many other times based on when I was able to pay in a combat zone my family and I were burned by GE MONEY.  I often wondered why it took so long to pay this worthless company off.  I blamed it on my wife for not paying the bills on time and really got down on her pretty hard; that I will fix when I get home.  It is hard to realize how deep a slimy company like GE can effect right into the fabric of marriage and trust.  I suggest all Chase customers start to write their complaints to  congress and keep good written records of the anomalies.  I wrote my complaint to the Judge Advocate General so as a Senior Military person charged with adjudicating over lesser ranks I would gain legal precedence in this matter.  The representative from JAG filed my concerns for future reference.  I appreciated the gesture.  AS for GE I will not even by a light bulb with that label.  If I have any when I get home I will break it and replace it with Sylvania; that is my right as an American.  I am quite certain that much of GE and the families that work for the company are good honest Americans and knowing the quality of the appliances that they make that have been tested over time; it really broke my heart to see the GE MONEY side of the company do so much damage to the same families that swore by the real products they produced.  Their president of the company expressed in an interview that maybe they should have stayed out of the money business and maintained focus on what made them in the first place.  HOW RIGHT YOUR WERE.   If Chase is engaged in the same practices it is only a matter of time before Congress takes hold of it; sorry it may be too late for some of the consumers but a good class action lawsuit for a few million dollars could raise a few eyebrows.  I will leave that in the hands of the legal system that for once may come to your rescue; they have done it a few times before in similar situations.  For us it would be one of those 100 dollar checks that I never really knew why it was sent Smile

I guess that on the upside, it's nice to see some companies still pulling through, and I hope that Ford does continue going forward. The only concern I have is with their commericals where they say that Ford cars have quality that can't be beat by Honda or Toyota. Chevy is another brand that is constantly comparing themselves to Honda and Toyota. This is very pathethic. You never see Honda or Toyota comparing their cars to other brands because they know they have a good product. They don't have to go around with a "my dad is better than your dad" mentality because this is very childish and petty, and the very fact that other brands try to stack up to Honda and Toyota is a clear testament to the fact that Honda and Toyota are both excellent, high quality car companies with great products. Were they always like this? No, they went through trial and error, but they got on the ball, and have the best cars on the road today. In the Ford article, it says that Ford was smart enough to raise some money, plus they made a lot of improvements in quality. But as I read that, I think to myself..."Why in the world did it take them so long to make these improvements to quality?" In my own experience I can say that Ford cars have always been junk. And just now they are improving quality? If you are going to make a product that transports people from point A to B, you need to make a good quality vehicle, but it seems to me that all these years, Ford has just been skimming by, making crappy vehicles. It's almost like they ran out of ideas and went ahead and released a half baked product onto the roads and said, "oh well, let's see what happens".

You just plain can't do that. I sincerly hope that Ford's improvements in quality are for real for the sake of all the families and individuals riding around in a Ford vehicle. Me? I'll never buy a Ford. I'll stick with my Japanese car. At least I know my family will be safer in it.

ok i saw a comment saying microsoft was getting eatin for lunch. ok lets look at the facts here apple services themselves only you cannot buy a toshiba screen and a mac computer and expect them to work. BUT you can buy a toshiba screen and a hp computer and have them work. APPLE only has one memory stick that will work microsoft has thousands. you think apple is so great but your spending 2000 dollars for a mac when i can take that and buy somthing 2 times better thats a PC so go ahead and say apple is better but in the end whos gonna last longer the guy that makes the most now or the guy who works with everyone? apple was about to go into dust but microsoft bought apples stock so they didnt go into bankruptcy.

Does anyone realize that the Ford Family's wealth depends on the stock price?  Is that one of Warren Buffet's criteria for investing? If not, it should be!

BTW - I bought at $1.50 per share.  Sold enough to get my money back at $6.00 and now I am hoping it goes to the moon!  If the economy picks up like most folks think, there is going to be happiness for those brave souls who are "FORD TOUGH!!!!"

I've used credit cards for my entire adult life, but I finally had a reality check. Credit is not good.

The smart person who actually would like to retire someday should pay off their cards and NEVER use any again. What's so bad about paying for stuff with real money and avoiding interest and fees and being screwed anyway?

I got over trying to impress other people with massive credit limits years and years ago. Too bad it's taken me this long to pay for my mistakes.

If everybody would live like I'm living now...cash only, no credit...there'd BE no Chase to take advantage of you.

Don't like the sound of that? Okay. Keep getting screwed and quit complaining because you've done it to yourself.

Debit cards:Broken heart

If you make a deposit after 3:00pm thurs. It will be the last thing justified on your account monday...well after all the weekend purchases are taken out of the balance before the deposit. All banks do this it is a way to screw the customer. To avoid this CASH your check and then deposit the cash, get a receipt and ask the teller to post it to your account IMMEDIATELY.

Foreign cars;Auto

ANY profit from a foreign car goes to the corp. headquarters of the country that owns the business. Foreign car companies DO NOT pay taxes on their profits but do enjoy the benefits of being in America. They are not charged import taxes because they are "assembled" here. They are also HUGE recipients of tax credits. (subsidization by tax payers which they are not)

If you want to buy a FORD in Japan you will pay triple the sticker there, If you buy a Toyota in Japan you will pay half (they subsidize their home sales with foreign profits, american tax dollars) America has not only bailed out Honda but all of Japan more than once. Just look back at the huge bailouts to the country last time the economy burped.

If you drive a forgien car don't get mad if you or someone you know is laid-off, You sent your money overseas!

We tried to buy a Ford this week with the "Cash for Clunkers" program, trading in a 2001 Ford Windstar.

For one, all the new Fords have parts made in Mexico and Japan.  They are NOT 100% American made in any way.  They feel like cheap vehicles, and every sales agent we talked to would tell us about all the "bonus discounts" we would receive, but when we would go to write up the contract, they would refuse to put in the promised discounts (such as customer loyalty, cash discount, military discount, etc.).

One sales agent even told us "the most I can give you back is $1,200, but I'm only going to deduct $500 from the sales price.

What?  So you can discount it 1,200, but I'm not allowed it for what reason?  We got up and walked out.  I'll keep my old van and drive it honestly.  I will not deal with a dishonest company.   When I asked why she said we qualified for discount over the phone, but not in person, she said "we say anything to get the customer in the door".  Enough said.  If "survival is job one", then lying to survive won't keep you there.  I'll buy another Toyota or Honda (which are fully made in the USA, despite the name on the bumper) than deal with a company that will outright lie to customers.

Go to the dealers and check the stickers on the windows yourself.  You'll be surprised at where "American made" cars are really made, and where "Japanese made" cars are made.  Most of the foreign labels are more American made than American labels.

viper1 you are exactly what was and still is wrong with this country. Prideful and arrogant. No President should ever apologize for America - bull. We do something wrong, we pay the price. If that means getting off our throne and showing the world we're human too then so be it. All the companies, banks, automakers, virtually EVERY major company that has suffered because of the economy is suffering because of their PRIDE. GM - "We're GM. Gas could go to $6 a gallon. It doesn't matter; people will still buy our 12mpg cars." Starbucks - "Why wouldn't someone want to pay $8 for a cup of coffee?" The list goes on an on. We're a prideful country. THAT'S what we need to change. I am an American, a Republican who voted for Obama because in my estimation he was the better option. (Although I would have loved to see what Ron Paul could have done with the US) viper1, I don't care if you're black, white, republican, democrat, ANYTHING, WHATEVER: YOU ARE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE UNITED STATES TODAY. Learn some humility. -- And if people like you ever try to do anything to harm the country we love, people like me will be there to stop you. (Of course with bush's patriot act in place the FBI will probably be knocking on his door anytime now lol)

My family owns all imported cars, except for me and my wife.  As an Asian, my wife and I have always been a Jeep fan, until Chrysler is on the verge of being sold to a european company.  We decided to support GM by trading in our Jeeps to GM products.  I understand that nothing is american, japanese, european or korean made anymore.  They were all sharing components to create what is called a world car.  However, my wife and I are ready to go back to asia again and will buy a GM product (Chevy Captiva, diesel).  Eventhough it was design in europe and built in Korea (Daewoo) plant, I am willing to give the money back to GM.  I worked in the US for over 20 years and probably retire soon in Asia.  It is time for me to give back, because USA is still the best country there is.  By the way, I already own a Ford Everest SUV, diesel.  Yes, I am an american car fan. **This country should not apologize to another country about the economic mess.  This is a worldwide problem.**

I'm cheering Ford on.  They build good quality, safe vehicles that aren't "tinny" and uncomfortable like some of their foreign competitors.  Who wouldn't want to support a company who told the government "No thanks"? And yes, Honda may employ a number of people in the US, but the profits still go back to Japan and the corporation probably doesn't pay much in taxes to the US Government.  Amazon is also a company we could applaud.  They are easy and safe to order from, their prices are good, and on the rare occasion there has been a problem with merchandise, even with a 3rd party seller, it has been solved immediately.  It's nice to know they are doing so well.
