Profiling the vehicle is real... I'm living proof. For several years I drove a BMW 540i. During that time I was ticketed for going 8 ~ 10 mph over the speed limit on 4 occasions, all on interstate highways. Prior to owning the Bimmer, I got one ticket in over 20 years and more than 500K miles. Since selling the BMW I haven't had a single ticket in 3 years. My driving habits didn't change at all. One of the tickets was from a Utah Trooper who stopped me even though 6 cars had just passed me going down a steep grade. I was the slowest car of the group, several minivans, commuter cars and a pickup went past me right in front of the Trooper. He stopped me for going 63 in a 55 zone and let the others zoom right by going at least 15 mph over the posted limit. BTW, I have been in 3 traffic accidents in over a million miles of driving, and none were my fault. All three accidents were city driving, with people just not watching where they were going. Speeding on the interstate has not made me an unsafe driver. Nor does it make me an aggressive driver. I can always simply go around slower traffic. Stupid and/or unskilled drivers are unsafe drivers.
@ keeping -real in nc,
Statistically women get in more accidents than men. Insurance rates are based not on the # of accidents but the amount of the claims which result. Women's rates are typically lower because the accidents are less costly. Men's rates are higher because the damage is usually more significant. Men tend to be more aggressive, which results in higher claims, and higher rates.
Rates are not the indicator of driving ability as you infer. If # of accidents is the benchmark, women are worse drivers.
If # of tickets is the benchmark, the results of the survey for this article indicates women are more frequently ticketed, then women are still worse drivers. Personally I think it has much more to do with the individual personalities, their skill level, and their focus, not the gender.
In ten years of driving I-295, I have seen state troopers only 10 or less times. Of course there is a Dunkin donuts on every corner too. If that comment upsets you officer then explain the guy on my bumper doing 65mph before he cuts two lanes of traffic to hit the offramp in ten feet EVERY FREAKIN DAY!!!!!!!!
Hey Geo413
"Leave us fast drivers alone, and go chase criminals."... you are criminals. Overly aggressive, fast drivers are self important egotistical morons. You race through neighborhoods where children play force people off the roads cut people off causing accidents... yeah you are criminals, no better than common thieves. Learn how to think of someone else besides yourself... most 5 years have already gotten the clue.
explain this:
TRAFFIC CAMERAS
can't blame the cops or the cars, just the idiots running lights and speeding infront of the cameras that are quite obvious and large and the giant 5' signs posted for 3 blocks before you get there...
can't believe some peoples ignorance soon when you speed you'll just get your ticket in the mail that way you can't blame the cops
we've had the traffic cameras for some time seems to work for the people who don't want to get the tickets
Police must write traffic tickets or every idiot out there would be speeding and running into everything. If you get a ticket and don't like it use the court system. Yes we have a court system where you can contest your ticket. You know those taxes you pay, they pay for this court system, so use your tax dollars.
The insurance companies can not base your rates off just your driving record. There is an uninsured idiot out there with your name on their bumper. They hit you and it is your insurance that pays. So here is an idea. Instead of bad mouthing the police and the insurance companies, try supporting the police. For every idiot thy get of the road or write a ticket to it is one less idiot to make your rates go up.
Try this. Support those that put their life on the line every day. Support Law Enforcement, Fire and Armed Forces. These are the people that protect your right to sit here and blog about how bad they are.
Try going up to them and shaking their hand and thanking them for their service. You might be surprised how it makes you feel and it might even make you a better person. Everyday I see at least one person in the above three categories. I go out of my way to thank them.
You want to fix the problems quit complaining and start supporting!!!!!
