Profiling the vehicle is real... I'm living proof.  For several years I drove a BMW 540i.  During that time I was ticketed for going 8 ~ 10 mph over the speed limit on 4 occasions, all on interstate highways.  Prior to owning the Bimmer, I got one ticket in over 20 years and more than 500K miles.  Since selling the BMW I haven't had a single ticket in 3 years.  My driving habits didn't change at all.  One of the tickets was from a Utah Trooper who stopped me even though 6 cars had just passed me going down a steep grade.  I was the slowest car of the group, several minivans, commuter cars and a pickup went past me right in front of the Trooper.  He stopped me for going 63 in a 55 zone and let the others zoom right by going at least 15 mph over the posted limit.  BTW, I have been in 3 traffic accidents in over a million miles of driving, and none were my fault.  All three accidents were city driving, with people just not watching where they were going. Speeding on the interstate has not made me an unsafe driver.  Nor does it make me an aggressive driver.  I can always simply go around slower traffic.  Stupid and/or unskilled drivers are unsafe drivers.

@ keeping -real in nc,

Statistically women get in more accidents than men. Insurance rates are based not on the # of accidents but the amount of the claims which result. Women's rates are typically lower because the accidents are less costly.  Men's rates are higher because the damage is usually more significant.  Men tend to be more aggressive, which results in higher claims, and higher rates.

Rates are not the indicator of driving ability as you infer.  If # of accidents is the benchmark, women are worse drivers.

If # of tickets is the benchmark, the results of the survey for this article indicates women are more frequently ticketed, then women are still worse drivers.  Personally I think it has much more to do with the individual personalities, their skill level, and their focus, not the gender.

By the way how fast is the Fed spending moneyThumbs down...way faster than the speed of lightLightning...and they don't get ticketed??????

Cops are idoits  They are never there when you need them.  A good cop is hard too find! Impossible to find.

As Roc908 said..."It's true that reckless driving is fatal, but cops tend to get personal and attack a 'car' for its looks and prestige."

Ticketing by camera is unfair and should be illegal! They are ticketing the car and not the driver. If a friend or relative is driving your car you not only get a ticket but, it goes on your driving record and your insurance goes up. The actual driver does not get a ticket and gets nothing on their driving record.

I've never been one of those people who believe "speed kills."  I think speed makes an accident worse, but I honestly don't think it causes very many of them.  What does cause accidents is when your car is somewhere others don't expect it to be.  Sudden braking, turning without signaling, being in the wrong lane for where you're trying to go, abrupt lane changes, failure to yield -- THESE are what cause accidents, not driving 10-15 miles over the speed limit.

Of the 10 cars listed, 7 of them listed men as less than 50% of the cited driver. (In other words, women were the drivers more than 50% of the time when those cars were ticketed).  What does that statistic reveal?

In ten years of driving I-295, I have seen state troopers only 10 or less times.  Of course there is a Dunkin donuts on every corner too. If that comment upsets you officer then explain the guy on my bumper doing 65mph before he cuts two lanes of traffic to hit the offramp in ten feet EVERY FREAKIN DAY!!!!!!!!

Hey Geo413

"Leave us fast drivers alone, and go chase criminals."... you are criminals. Overly aggressive, fast drivers are self important egotistical morons. You race through neighborhoods where children play force people off the roads cut people off causing accidents... yeah you are criminals, no better than common thieves. Learn how to think of someone else besides yourself... most 5 years have already gotten the clue.

They are right on with the Mercedes SL.   Red, in particular.  I was stopped numerous times in California.  Never received a ticket or warning because I wasn't doing anything wrong.  It was outright harassment.  Changed colors and haven't been stopped one time.

explain this:

TRAFFIC CAMERAS

can't blame the cops or the cars, just the idiots running lights and speeding infront of the cameras that are quite obvious and large and the giant 5' signs posted for 3 blocks before you get there...

can't believe some peoples ignorance soon when you speed you'll just get your ticket in the mail that way you can't blame the cops

we've had the traffic cameras for some time seems to work for the people who don't want to get the tickets

As the ex-wife of a police officer, I must say that quotas do exist....but not to the extent that others think they do. How do you think your township generates revenue? If a cop is found to not be writing a certain amount of tickets, per month, they lose their job. If a cop is found to be writing to many tickets, generally they're the ones who generate complaints, they get fired. I've seen it happen. There is no "happy medium". There are always going to be people out there who don't accept responsibility for their actions. Get over it. In the time I was married to this cop, I never alerted the ticketing officer to my relations with a fellow officer. If I did something wrong, I deserved my ticket. I support the "men in blue". I've also seen profiling work. Officers are mandated to take a profiling class within their career. Seriously though...quit complaining. I'd like to see most of you do a job that pays as little as a janitor gets. They risk their lives every day for our safety, and still yet they have to deal with sad excuses, and whining, that "why aren't they chasing criminals?" Honey, if you're even committing a minor traffic infraction, YOU ARE A CRIMINAL. As the good Lord says, "One sin is no greater than the other. They are ALL equal sins in my eyes". Your "minor" infraction? Like speeding? CAN, and has, killed somebody. Failing to signal? CAN, and has, killed somebody. Read your drivers manual, and read the laws on driving. We have these laws in place FOR A REASON. They're not there to **** us off....they are there to keep us ALL safe. So all I can say now, to those complaining, is stop being selfish. You sound like my kids.

wow...you all are so quick to bash police...until you need them. I am a cop. I have never gotten a penny back for any of the tickets that I've written. We don't get a bonus for "making the city money." I can't speak for every department, but we do not have "quotas." That being said, our productivity is monitored, just like any other job in the world. Guess what...if your a traffic cop, you are expected to make traffic stops!! Traffic enforcement is important. When drivers get pulled over or see another car pulled over, it is a reminder that there are consequences for driving unsafely. Yes, some cops are traffic nazi's. sorry. I will share a little secret though. For most police officers, the attitude of the driver has a huge impact on whether or not the driver receives a citation. It's not a power trip, it's not discrimination or profiling, and we certainly are not jealous of your car. Trust me, it does not pump up my self esteem to stop a mercedes doing 65 in a 50, and writing a ticket. Try to keep in mind that the same officer that pulled you over will likely be that same guy that puts his life on the line if/when the nut job starts shooting people in the mall your shopping at or your children's school.

Police must write traffic tickets or every idiot out there would be speeding and running into everything. If you get a ticket and don't like it use the court system. Yes we have a court system where you can contest your ticket. You know those taxes you pay, they pay for this court system, so use your tax dollars.

The insurance companies can not base your rates off just your driving record. There is an uninsured idiot out there with your name on their bumper. They hit you and it is your insurance that pays. So here is an idea. Instead of bad mouthing the police and the insurance companies, try supporting the police. For every idiot thy get of the road or write a ticket to it is one less idiot to make your rates go up.

Try this. Support those that put their life on the line every day. Support Law Enforcement, Fire and Armed Forces. These are the people that protect your right to sit here and blog about how bad they are.

Try going up to them and shaking their hand and thanking them for their service. You might be surprised how it makes you feel and it might even make you a better person. Everyday I see at least one person in the above three categories. I go out of my way to thank them.

You want to fix the problems quit complaining and start supporting!!!!!

People who drive these cars go by me like I am standing still.  They think because they have a unique/expensive car they are above the law and they probably have enough $ to get off.  It is NOT the car just like it is not the gun that kills.  These statistics are not important.  they are just trying to get people to read this "news" so they can get more add revenue

I think cops tend to ticket cars that they themselves cannot afford to drive  so that's one reason you see so many Mercedes on the list. That along with the color red which in a sports car is a ticket magnet.

Logic makes a good point...we all drive diffeent cars different ways. And yes, India's driving laws are non-existent, pretty much, yet we hire so many of them to drive cabs? Ironic! lol.

It's just a scam, a way for the state to take money out of your pocket...legalized 'shakedowns' and nothing more. 90% of all traffic tickets are bogus, they shouldn't be allowed to do this to the people.

In El Paso the big-bellied city cop will have to lean on car to keep from falling down.  My mother and I also got a cheap drunk from his breath.  Was I speeding - No way.  Driving under the limit.  Tags from near Houston - no way I could come back and contest.  Oh did I mention the wheelchair on back of car?  Yeah, he targeted me....
